John joined as Chief Executive in October 2016 and his responsibilities include delivering on Care City’s two priority programmes; the NHS Innovation Test Bed and NHS Healthy New Town at Barking Riverside. Coupled to this, his focus is to secure future investments for the business, with a particular focus on social regeneration, and to raise the profile of Care City through generating a positive image of the contribution the work makes to the community it serves.
John spent a year consulting to public service organisations, helping them with strategy and innovation. He is a Senior Associate of Innovation Unit, and has also been working with FutureGov, the Cabinet Office’s Policy Lab, Shelter and Stonewall. John spent five years leading Innovation Unit, an independent non-profit that develops radically better, lower-cost public services. He helped the organisation to grow to thirty staff and into new service areas and countries.
Before his time at Innovation Unit, John worked at the Cabinet Office as a Policy Advisor, and at the think-tank, Demos, as a senior researcher.
John holds degrees from the University of London and the University of Oxford.
